New Pond Finished Today.

Hi Guys,
Im back with my new pond,
alot better today and iv been popping in and out watching and directing Baz with the new pond area.
Today Baz had to add more topsoil and level the area,
also adding some bricks tight as surports to the stones which were going around the edge.
The bricks will stop it sinking even though we have left the soil to settle

As you can see he then placed membraine over to stop weeds comming through.
Then layed the large rocks around overlaping the edge of the pond

Got them all layed correct then we put the fishies back which wasnt to bad, i had not fed them for a couple of days as told at the pond place so they would be calm.
indeed they were and once in swimming about happily i gave them some food

  • We were going to use the old iron pump for a water feature but then i decided to use an old pot which the bottom had fallen out, thought it looked good cascading over the edge*

Pebbles, pump and net in place all done at least till im well enough to start on rearanging some plants and adding new ones to, cant wait for that lol,
Also baz will attach the net to a frame that way i can take it off while in the garden or family and friends round, then place it back in possition at night or when not about,
that way my fish are safe from the heron.
If all goes well with my 3 surviving fish i will then add another 3 soon :o))
Hope you all like the new pond, im so pleased with what Baz has done concidering he hates gardening, but its perfectly level as he is a builder and very thorough at his work, it took him 6 hours of work today and all to cheer me up after being so poorly, thanx Baz, love you xxx

Your happiness shines through in this blog, San! ... Pleased you are feeling much better ... and the pond looks great ... love the way you've re-cycled the old broken pot ... :o)))

21 Apr, 2012

San, that looks great. What a clever idea to use those bricks to support the rocks! wish I'd thought of that! It really does look great now. What a pity you have heron trouble. That's why I'm not having fist...well, that and the fact they make so much muck in the pond. I hope you manage to hang on to yours this time, it's awful when you get attached to them and then see them being swallowed whole! So glad you are feeling better though, I have been thinking about you all day as I worked on my pond!

21 Apr, 2012

Nice to have you back San....Pond looks wonderful, can't wait to see it all planted up...glad you're feeling a bit better xx

21 Apr, 2012

Baz deserves a big pat on the back for all that work Sandra and what a great job he's made of it. Of course he couldn't have done it without you issueing instructions from your director's chair could he! How lovely it will look when all planted up but for now, just enjoy looking at it and planning :o)) So glad you're on the mend. xx

21 Apr, 2012

21 Apr, 2012

Pleased you are feeling better, its a nasty uncomfortable complaint isn`t it?
The pond is looking good, well done Baz, I bet he enjoyed it really San, its not really gardening was the way my hubby described it when we were doing ours and I queried the fact that he was enjoying the digging, lol.
You are going to have a whale of a time sorting out the surrounding area and watching the planting coming together, you`ll be adding things for years, I know that from experience, its like the rest of our gardens, there`s always something new to catch ones eye.
Its lovely San ,now all we need are some lovely warm evenings to sit by the pond and enjoy....

21 Apr, 2012

I can 'see' how that's going to look when established with plants, San. A good job there! Well done Baz. (Even though the little dears SAY they don't like gardening, they all come over to the dark side! My gardening-hater is the first to say "Gardners' World on tonight!")

22 Apr, 2012

22 Apr, 2012

Hi Love the new pond, great idea for the old pot. Cant wait to see how it all develops over the summer. Good idea for the stones around the edge, we have paving stones which over time have moved and were looking for ideas for an alternative, think we may copy your idea! Thank you for sharing.

well done Baz, its looking great, glad you are feeling better San

22 Apr, 2012

Hi Sand. Sorry you've been poorly again, but glad you're feeling better.
Haven't been on here for a while, trying to catch up, but finding it really hard as laptop seems to keep freezing. Well, I think it's the laptop, could be something else, knowing me with my 'no brain computer knowledge'.lol.

Pond is looking fab. Won't be long (and with your green fingers) before it will look stunning like the last one.
Well done to Baz! (bet he's secretly pleased how good it looks) lol. :o)

25 Apr, 2012

Hi Sandra, the pond is great! I wish I lived nearer cos we have so many goldfish we could have given you some! I am sure it will look very pretty when the plants get going.
We have just got our pond pump and waterfall going again, so OH is pleased.(We have a friendly electrician who helps us out)
We have two kinds of lilies but not many marginal plants - I am going to a garden centre tomorrow so may look for something.
Take care and dont overdo things until you are fully fit.

26 Apr, 2012

Hi Jane what a shame i guess yours have had plenty of babies then, im going at weekend to get another 3.

How exciting Sandra, I'm dying to see how you plant it up. I didn't know you'd been poorly, but glad you're on the mend:-))

27 Apr, 2012

thankyou BA iv posted a few pics on some plants iv added and im feeling alot better to cheers :o))

27 Apr, 2012

Hi Sandra, nothing much to write home about today I am afraid! I am off to a smaller family centre next week so may be more successful there.
Yes our fish seem to breed - we are intrigued as to what happens to the older ones! Some do die of course, occasionally we can recognise them.
I would quite like a wildlife pond without goldfish cos they eat the frogspawn and toad spawn of course. But OH likes his goldfish. When we moved to this house, the removal men helped to catch the fish from the old pond!

27 Apr, 2012

jane i was reading that goldfish can live a long life around 20/30 years in perfect conditions,
have been known to live to 40 but not common,
even though they eat some frog spawn jane some do survive and maybe its part of nature keeping the levels down.
can you imagine how many frogs and toads there would be if no eggs got eaten lol,
we would be over run with them i think,
how good of the removal men to help catch them, its tricky and also trying not to stress the fishies out, i might go today if Baz wants to,, to see about my new fish, but i want them about the same size as what i have, especially the shubunkin as mine needs a friend haha.

28 Apr, 2012

Love the pond San...well done to Baz, under your direction of course...lol! A good job done, can't wait to see more pics soon. Hope you're feeling a bit better now, take care x
