To all members I have contacted since I joined GOY I must apologise for adding lol at the end of my messages. I have been informed by Buffriddler that it means laughed out loud where I thought it stood for lots of love but I’m sure you all knew what I ment.

Lol Sadie I'd never heard of it till I joined GOY. I had to write a blog to ask what it meant. Then I found out there are lots more. I found out another one yesterday BTW means 'by the way'. And there's yet another I'd like to know the meaning of - IMAO - what on earth can that mean ?
Have you seen the little faces aswell. I thought it was people who couldn't type :o)

I nearly pmsl (which means to urniate in one's underwear due to laughter coz of laughing so hard - rofl!). It reminds me that, somewhere in my inbox, is a text/online message abbreviation for "fingers crossed" - brilliant for those of us hoping to achieve in our gardens what we see in our minds/show exhibitors/ those opening gardens to the public, etc. Will go now and look for it, then post here.

I don't know how many of you do text messaging, but to the younger generation that is a piece of cake. But not that hard really. I have learned shorthand in my young days ( LOL ) and that is more or less on the same principle. As I am in constant touch with the younger generation through the modern communication systems I have learned to appreciate this language. But I wonder how many of those can spell a "normal: word these days. But LOL has been around for a long time and I must have used it for 10 years, as long as I am internetting.
But you've got me puzzled Poannua, what does SWALK on the back of envelopes mean??? R.S.V.P. hahaha.

Sealed with a loving kiss - Marguerite. We thought we where being very "with it" if we put this on the back of a letter. As you state, how are .the younger generation going to write a proper letter these days but ,then again ,who writes letters now. Poor old Will S. would turn in his grave!

Sorry Grenville, I didn't realise my apology would get such a re-action. Let's get back to gardening.

Thanks Sadie,
It's just that after reading some of the comments and replies to your Blog,I wondered what on earth has all this to do with gardening?
I do understand, but we have also read blogs recently with requests for musical items on this site as well, and there are plenty of other sites on the internet where folks can do that- but this is a gardening forum.
I felt that this is not really what this site is all about, and the integrity of this fantastic site would be lost.
At least I'm not afraid to speak up if I'm not happy with the way I see things are progressing on this site!
All best wishes,
Grenville.

with all the rain weve had for the past months some of us havent had a chance to get into the garden so we havent got much gardening chat but we still like to have a little banter with each other and let each other know how we are ie hospital appointments, funny stories and keeping in touch with good goy friends. its a tonic for some people and perhaps we could look on its diversity as one of its strengths
happy gardening all (if you can get out)

With short apology to Grenville, I reckon LOL means "little old lady" which always puts people off using it for some reason! Fine by me though, as I know loads of LOLs who are brilliant gardeners, ho ho. They are the ones with lots of interesting experience and advice.

Thanks Weeding,
I have to confess that I find all the text talk confusing -it's probably got a lot to do with the fact that I was a teacher and I tried to teach young children to read write and spell for 35 years, so I hope you understand!
Best wishes
Grenville.

As unlikely as it sounds Im with you on this Grenville.Clearly Im daft but do try to keep things garden orientated my pet hate is being re-directed to other sites. We could all use other sites for information but would lose the sense of interaction this site has developed.Nice to share opinions doesnt have to be scientifically accurate just what works for us in similar situations.

I'm with you, Grenville. Much as I like lots of laughs in my life, when I post a question on this lovely site what I hope to receive in the way of answers is good common sense based on gardening experience. Happily there are several members who can be totally relied upon to do just that.
