I only found out about a fortnight ago that after an absence of two decades or more Britain’s annual national rose show is back where it belongs, at the Royal National Rose Society’s HQ in St Albans – which just happens to be my home town.

The two day festival takes place this coming w/end, Sat 7th and Sun 8th, and I’m so excited I cannot wait. Especially as it’ll cost only a fiver to get in, and that includes entry to the Gardens of the Rose plus a variety of entertainments and craft shows.

The main attraction though is the exhibition event in which Britain’s top amateurs compete for gold, silver and bronze in a multitude of classes. It’s quite a while since I last attended the annual show so I’m not sure quite what to expect. I do know that over the years the number of exhibitors has shrunk considerably, so I’m not holding my breath. But whatever the turn out, I shall regard every bloom in the exhibition as a bonus. And you can bet I’ll have my camera fully charged up.

ROLL ON SATURDAY!

Thanks all for your encouraging comments. I took you at your word and snapped loads and loads!

It’s been a wonderful day, exhilirating even, such has been the standard of the exhibits.

What surprised and delighted me most was what you might call the magnificence of the miniatures. I didn’t count but they seemed to take up about a quarter of the whole show, much more than expected anyway.

So enough from me, time to get posting piccies! Here’s my first selection.
-—————————————————————————————-
The first pic below includes the red and yellow bicolour ‘Glowing Amber,’ a very striking bloom that also featured in several exhibits and pretty much stole the miniatures show.

Cannot remember which prize the next exhibit below took but once again I was taken by a bicolour, this time Hannah Gordon (the bloom at the top)

A category I don’t recall seeing before (not saying much – it’s years since I last attended a rose show) is this Miniature Bloom in a Glass of Water. I loved the way they float around in the glass if you jog them slightly. Not sure if the bloom below won a prize and I don’t seem to have its name, but it really caught my eye.

That’s it for tonight, hope to add a few more pics tomorrow.
