Waterfeature

My sister gave me garden vouchers for my recent 70th birthday, so I have decided to make a water feature of our very small pond. It is an old water tank and was never very successful. The fish didn’t seem to like it and hedgehogs kept falling into it; even though I wedged a slate out so that they could climb out.
The idea I have is to put a stong wire grid over it with a piece of granite in the middle with a hole through wich a pipe from a solar panel pump could be fitted; then cover the grid with sea cobles onto which the water could tumble.
We have bought the granite, the cobbles and the grid. Would appreciate any ideas on planting.I have 12 aubretia coming on nicely; but thats as far as I’ve got so far.
