Have I really had a holiday !

Before the holiday, things to do: 1. Cut both lawns, 2. weed every border, including the allotment. 3. deadhead the roses. 4. water anything that needs it, including all pots and any baskets that are still flowering. 5 clean house top to bottom.5 make sure every veg. that needs freezing is done. 6 . Empty and clean the fridge. Back from the holiday and things to do: 1.Apparently the tail end of a hurricane hit Britain so, arrived home Tuesday night, and on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,Saturday there was beech nuts , branches and cones to clear up..

2.Cut both lawns. 3.Weed every border, including the allotment.4. Deadhead the roses. 5. Water anything that needs it ( especially after returning home to a heatwave) 6. Shop and fill up the fridge again, but clean it again first ( as, silly old me shut the fridge door causing mildew inside).Still it was nice to come back and not have to light the fire and to see my favourite rose Bonica plus others still flowering,(4th flush which is unusual).

Rudbeckias still flowering their heads off.

Osteospermums and begonias

trailing begonias.

and this is a Philadelhus which has decided to flower again. So is this holiday worth all this work? YES,IT IS!

Oh I don't know Stickie, as long as the hurricane is somewhere else but the heatwave is where we are. I think Karensusan our house is always cleanest when we are holidaying. Thanks both of you for your comments and I had only just finished writing it , and didn't expect such a quick response.

Lovely pictures Rose, glad you enjoyed yourselves. Always the same when you get back the garden has to be knocked back into shape. There are leaves all over mine at the moment, but not going to clear them up until they have finished falling, it is such a big task and I can be at it for weeks if I start now. One of the downfalls of having an 80 acre wood alongside the garden. I will pick some up with the mower and that will have to be it - I did buy a blower/sucker for the leaves but it is so heavy I can only manage to use it the once in the year. lol. another waste of money. It was supposed to have a wheel on the nozzle and it didn't so I just have to lugg it around and hope my back doesn't give out. Your garden is still full of flowers, mine is suffering because of the lack of rain yet again this year. Hoping for a drop of the wet stuff this week sometime. Make sure you find time to sit out while it is still so warm, enjoy. xx B

Thanks Lincs lass and Sheilar,i think most of us are exactly the same about cleaning the house before we go away.As hubby says it must be a woman thing! Elizabeth,my friend, I didn't have a clue what that large concoction was when they brought it to the table, but when the top came off ,all it revealed was a special chicken dish (which was very nice ,by the way).At the hotel when we ate there ,a casserole dish was put on a plate covered in tin foil and was set alight!Frightened me to death, and when we tried to blow it out ,it burned even more. The manager of the hotel thought it was very funny, because if we had left it ,it would have just gone out on its own. Thanks olive, and I thought we got alot of leaves! I have a lawn hoover and that too doesn't have wheels ,so most of the time we sweep it up,every day.Maybe I should take a leaf (lol) out of your book and wait until they have all shed their leaves. Thanks Lil for your kind comments.

Hi Rose, enjoyed your blog made me laugh the things we think we need to do before we go away I do those things and also always have to put bleach down the toilets just as I am leaving. Your garden is looking lovely and looks like you had a lovely time away.
