Do you remember this programme? Then I will tell you a true little story. My friends hubby is not (and I stress) not a D.I.Y. man. He’s a lovely man but doesn’t stop to think before doing anything. I think I will call them Betty and Frank. Recently Betty had told Frank to clean up the shed because she had to fight her way in to get to the freezer. While tidying up the freezer,Frank, bless him, in his wisdom fixed a shelf up above the freezer ( literally). A few days went by and Betty was getting fed up of trying to get the food out of the freezer as the lid wouldn’t open very far( I wonder why!) so this time when she got Frank to remove it, she stayed there, arms folded!Unbeknown to Betty ,this shelf was only fixed with a bracket on one end and the other side was resting on a piece of wood ( don’t ask!)Frank took the bracket off first, went to the other end (obviously this wood must have been acting as a ledge) and while chatting away to Betty, leant on the shelf which immediately flew up in the air followed by a plastic tin of fence care ( on the shelf) which hit the roof and came down minus the lid straight over poor Betty’s head, who was literally covered in brown paint from head to foot. Needless to say the air was blue….or should I say brown!

She certainly did,Olive, she didn't speak to him for 2 days and I'm sorry to have to say ,when they told us about this today, hubby and I nearly wet ourselves laughing and all I could say to her is,pity you didn't have a camera at the ready. Luckily she can see the funny side now. Thanks Stickie, he is always doing something wrong, he should have been called Frank! One time he nearly blew himself up in the shower, no idea how he did that. My friend despairs of him.Lil ,I thought it would be funnier to change their names after the people in this programme, maybe you never watched it.

Ooohhhhhhh Bettyyyyyy !!!!. I would have knocked his block off, no matter how lovely he is, I would also have laughed when they told me. Things like that are only funny when they happen to somebody else...

Really made me laugh on this very wet day in West Yorkshire. Hope your clean now. Bet OH is still a little sheepish.

You just can't make it up really. So funny. Would have made good film for Some Mothers Do Ave Em :D. Don't blame you for laughing, I'd have howled (same as we did when a friend of ours got his head stuck in a Vauxhall Zafira lol). As Lincslass said its only funny when it happens to someone else :P

Oh, for dears sake! Somebody pass me a tissue! That's brilliant Rose, you're so right, it is just like something from the tv!! Or Laurel and Hardy! It was water based paint I hope? Lol! And brown's such an unflattering colour when you're covered head to toe! Always beware of a man with his head in the clouds and his hand on a hammer!!x

lol :o)
I always say if you want something done properly, do it yourself......

Glad you all had a good laugh, I should feel realy guilty as it is my friiend(not me Grannyb) who got drenched.I told her I would have to put it on here and she didn't mind, so thought I'd change the names to Frank and Betty for a bit of fun. I expect she would have laughed too if it had happened to me.As you say, it is funny when it happens to someone else. How do you get your head stuck in a Vauxhall ! The mind boggles.I don't know if it was water based, Elizabeth as all her clothes went in the bin and she is still trying to get it off herself. I think Hywel in his case she should have done it herself.

Lol Rose its one of those stories you just can't make up:

We had gone to a party at my parents friends house, my godmother had very kindly driven in their Vauxhall Zafira (the one with two seats you can put up in the boot section for extra space). When we left Chris (teenage lad - you know the 'Mr Cool' type - in a long black jacket - think Matrix coat -) somehow convinced me to get in the back of the car (god knows how, must have been drinking :P) He climbs in next to me and reaches round the bench in front to pull it back into place. Just as I hear my godmother say "mind your head Chris" the seats click into place and there was Chris his head between the headrest and the side of the car - stuck. One arm round the headrest waving in the air, the other somewhere down the side of the car. It has got to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. My parents (still stood on the drive outside) were litterally holding onto one another to stay upright they laughed that hard. My godfather came and got him out (he was fine) laughing at himself somewhat. We still tease him about it :D:D Just wish we'd taken a photo :D

Thanks for telling me that story, i had to really think about it as I haven't heard of a vauxhall Zafira but I got it in the end.Pity you hadn't got the camera with. Could you imagine it, " stay there Chris, while I take a photo!"By the way what does :D mean, I'm not into computer speak, only got one this year and still learning.

i think :D ~ is a laughing face rather than :) which is a smiley face!!

glad you found this Mark ~ they could have done with your help couldnt they!!?

Rose I think the story looses something in the telling. Hehehe I don't think Chris would have minded, his mom may have lol, she's a little protective (to put it mildly).

Bingo gold star to Sticki :)

Thanks for that Stickie, I suppose I will get the hang of it eventually. Thanks again Samjp.

ooh thanks samjp

As you say Rose, it did give me a good giggle!! Sounds just like something from a 'Carry on' film. Can't you just see Sid James standing there laughing his silly sides off while soppy Charles Hawtry stood there with that plastic bucket on his head and brown paint covering the rest of him!! If it actually happened in a film you'd think it was just too unlikely to have ever happened in real life!! Thanks a lot--you made my day----or rather, your friend's husband did! Are they still living together? HO! HO! ....Annie

9 Sep, 2011

you made it funny all over again annie!!!

9 Sep, 2011

I used to like Sid James Annie but I can't remember this one.I also used to like "Bless this house", and I think the comedy programmes were much better in those days.Another of my favourites was " The good life" and "Fresh fields" but I could go on forever.Nice to see you back Annie.

10 Sep, 2011

i loved bless this house and the good life, i cant remember fresh fields.
was there one called my wife next door?

10 Sep, 2011

Yes ,there was Stickie, but I can't remember who was in it. Fresh fields was played by the lady who does Miss Marples, but (senior moments again) can't remember her name. It was followed by a series called french Fields when the family moved to France. The man who played her husband was on the tv. alot and was in a series called May and September. There was so many sitcoms then ,its hard to remember them all.The good old days, eh!

10 Sep, 2011

ah yes i remember that now ~ I can see their faces; had to google it ~ julia mackenzie and anton rogers

10 Sep, 2011

Do you know what Stickie ,since I have been thinking about this man, all our friends have been trying to think who it is so i can now tell them its Anton Rogers. Thanks for that.
