Very pretty! It reminds me a little, actually - a lot, of a ceropegia.

Hi Janey,
Luckily we don't get snails on our property.
The soil is being deliberately placed right in the middle of the flower, and the petals tacked down. So far it's only happened on these two plants, which are in the same area of the garden.
On question - What does this?

We use a Panasonic DMC-LZ2, which we purchased in 2005. We chose it because it was an affordable point and shoot with 6x optical zoom and image stabilization, as well as allowing a close up of 5cm, which according to specs is the same as your S730.
My advice is to always hike up the quality of the image, and turn off the digital zoom to avoid the temptation of over-zooming and ruining the image quality. And of course, take pictures in the best light possible.

She was there two days in a row, and I haven't seen her since. She didn't do any jumping for me.. :)
It's the first time I've seen this particular type, but am ready with a camera for the next one

Thank you Flcrazy. This plant has done well - it is in a pretty sheltered location, where it doesn't get much wind.. maybe that's what keeps the leaves intact? Our other variety planted right beside it doesn't fair too well, getting brown spots all over the leaves, looking a little rough.

Thanks. I had found various blurbs about other varieties, but not this specific one. Mine is living in clay, but so far so good. I think I'll go visit it now :)

Thanks :)
The flowers opened fully today (on the one side, anyway). Not quite as blue as I expected (definite purple tinge to it), but still really pretty.

Xela - your Jasper is a very good looking fellow :)
Thanks Terratoonie.
I keep telling Jasper how handsome he is, and he just grins with 'Oh, I know I am'.

I have been checking it daily, and there have been the same little buds for over a month. Then this evening, I noticed that the branches that are most shaded (by the rest of the plant) have started blooming. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. I also noticed today that the plant has a very interesting smell when you rub the leaves.. I can't put my finger on it, but sort of like an artificially flavoured lemon-lime drink.
I'm just amazed by the beautiful almost irridescent leaf colour. Wish I knew what to do with it in the spring. Any idea if it's supposed to be cut back, and if so, how much?

Traceylynn - you should be able to see the picture of the bloom at http://www.growsonyou.com/photo/slideshow/17448/
They stand around 3 or so feet tall and are quite pretty. The bulbs are a little expensive as far as bulbs go, so getting two and ending up with three is a nice bonus :)

How are you enjoying this plant so far? Ours finally sprung into action a few weeks ago after doing nothing much most of the season.
Are you expecting flowers this year?

Thank you.
One of the things I like so much is how surreal it looks.. sort of the lines and shapes you see in drawings of fairies.
They grew very tall this year, but were pounded down by the rains. Still look beautiful though :) They self seed for years and years.

Probably the same (vicious) insect.. they seem to be called every name in the book and then some, lol.
I just try to keep out of their way.

Yes, these are alliums. We really enjoyed them and will probably try planting a few more varieties this fall.

They haven't yet, but we've only had it since last summer. I just looked up the topic, and don't think it's likely that will happen naturally in our particular garden, but we'll see!

The label says 'Tropical Rose'. Just noticed that it says up to 30cm in height... which explains why it's so short.. I assumed I did something wrong when potting it.
It's quite elegant.

I found a tag that may belong to it - it *might* be 'Velvet Night'.

Jasper is a border collie cross, probably with a collie, but we're not sure.

Does this plant have a smell if you rub the leaves?
