a plant called "bridal wreath" - i don't know what the botanical name is - i have a photo of one, they grow to about 8ft in five years, but they are a spring plant - don't look much during mid-winter?

isn't that one of those "killer" bugs that have come in from asia (or wherever?) and eating our ladybirds... i saw something on gardeners world about it recently...i'm sure?
Apparently, british ladybirds have seven spots on their back and the new ones have either more or less spots...

hi
watched gardeners world last week and monty don said it was a good time to start splitting bulbs of dafs that are fading - so maybe it applies to tulipts too? he said you could spread bulbs around garden to get an even better display next year ?

grouping lavender and rosemary shrubs together - if the sun shines on that patch of garden first thing (especially with dew on) the fragrance is fantastic for when you first leave the house - i also like grasses to...

Hi
my neighbour lays one or two wine bottles on the ground near to the plants she doesn't want disturbed - according to her, cats are frightened of the reflection of the moon or street lights on the glass...?
she swears by it - obviously it means your going to have to get through a couple of bottles over the next few days..

i used to live in a terrace in enfield, north london where everyone's gardens backed on to each other - your post has just reminded me of the dreaded bind weed that i had. it seemed the more i pulled this stuff out the stronger it became, i didn't help that the garden next door was totally overgrown... good luck

hi - thanks for the replies... Helofadigger, i've planted some marigold seedlings so when they're robust enough i'll try putting them near the lupins, but i think they're more likely to be the nasty "little blighters" sid mentioned... if the marigolds don't work, i think its for the bin with lupins!?
