A week away in the Derbysire Dales

We had a week away in the Derbysire Dales and stayed in a wooden cabin in a Forest glade. We have been there before many times, and like it there for a relaxing time. It is near Buxton, Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Chesterfireld and Matlock. Here are a few pictures that I took.

lovely pics Richard glad you enjoyed your week away...dont think much of the sheep roaster though ..lol

26 Sep, 2010

It is very beautiful there Lincslass that is why we have been going there for so many years. It is only about an hour and a quarter drive from our home in Leicestershire-if there is no hold up on the M1 ...lol, which there quite often is. ;-)

26 Sep, 2010

looks beautiful richard, i love the log cabins, would like to have a break in one myself, away from it all, lovely pics of the big house to and flowers, i have the Dahlia in your first pic its a lovely one ;o))

26 Sep, 2010

Thanks Richard, that is a lovely blog, great pictures. Looks like you had a fabulous holiday. The Log Cabin looks great, that sort of holiday would do for me.

26 Sep, 2010

Sorry about the sheep roaster Joanella not sure if it is used any more. It is more of historical interest I think because the place where it was 'Eyam' was the place where the great plague started. Lucky for us it was many hundreds of years ago :-)

It was really nice there Sandra so peaceful and quiet the only sounds were of the birds in the trees. I suppose it wouldn't really be too far for you to travel there either if you ever thought about going. I can now go back to the Dahlia pic and name it properly instead of 'flower' lol. Would you know what the yellow flowers are by any chance Sandra, some sort of daisy perhaps? ;-))

26 Sep, 2010

The log cabin look's lovely just the sort of place I would like.Your photo's are good I like the look of the house,

26 Sep, 2010

The cabin in the woods is right up my street....love it :) and Chatsworth is spectacular...we've visited there many times and when we have visitors from Canada it's one of the places we always end up taking them. Always causes lots of ooh's and aah's from the visitors.

What was the sheep roaster used for....or is it obvious by its name? (i.e. for roasting sheep?). I've never heard of it before so a bit curious.

Thanks for sharing your holiday with us, Richard.

26 Sep, 2010

could be camomile richard, looks like it to me ;o)

26 Sep, 2010

i have that dalia as well. love the cabin ,cud live in one . they look so warm and inviteing

26 Sep, 2010

Thanks Sandra I am sure that is what it is..I will call it that anyway ;-))

Well Mavisc, Whistonlass and Cristina If I owned a wooden cabin like that I would invite you all to have a holiday there free of charge ...lol ;-))

I think that is what the sheep roaster is for Whistonlass though not sure how it works though-not sure if I want to know either my friend ;-))

26 Sep, 2010

Yes, Richard....it sounds a bit gruesome....maybe best not to know....but I might just be tempted to do a google search...curiosity and all that...lol

Couldn't resist...looked it up and all I could find....used for village fetes to roast a whole sheep (definitely not too much information to get the old stomach churning!)...

26 Sep, 2010

Thanks for looking that up Whistonlass. I would have thought to roast it then you would need something like a spit roaster where you would turn the handle around over a flame. There was nothing like that there. ;-))

26 Sep, 2010

Happy to help...I would think it would be a spit roaster too.

26 Sep, 2010

Went to Matlock in July Richard, and stayed in cottage in Two Dales..went to Chatsworth with an Aussie guest who was suitably impressed!
I have never seen it so late in the season before tho..so thanks for showing the pics..it looks lovely and peaceful..better than high summer!

26 Sep, 2010

Nice to see you had a lovely time Richard beautiful is nt it and a wonderful blog a bit of every thing which I love even the sheep roaster lol the amount of times I ve passed by this on Motor way yet never visited it lost count heading towards Yorkshire. Have you ever been to Matlock beautiful use to go there before it was name Gullivers Kingdom and free entry all the bykers go too.

26 Sep, 2010

Thanks Whistonlass for your help ;-)
We usually go at around Autumn time Tetarch at half term. We managed to go off season for the very first time as we have finished working now. The place we stayed at was very near Two Dales..nice fish and chip shop there...lol ;-)
Thanks Sixpence, yes we have visited all around that area and also Matlock. We have had a ride on the chairlift there too. :-)

27 Sep, 2010

What a lovely blog you have here Richard, it looks so idyllic there, I could just imagine walking through the glade and watching the wildlife, I bet the night sky looked wonderful too, as there doesn't look like too much light pollution there! I loved the Log cabin, just my kind of holiday too, especially in Autumn, with all the turning of the leaves...Glad you all had such a lovely break, thank you for sharing it my friend.... :~))))))x

27 Sep, 2010

Glad you liked my blog Flori. There were many starlit nights there as the days were sunny and the evenings were cold, so clear skies. It is amazing how your thoughts wander when you look at the sky, there is such a clear vastness up there. The trees were lovely shades of red and brown also at ground level lol. ;-)) x

27 Sep, 2010

Lovely blog and pics,Richard. We are only about an hour away too,and I agree ,its a wonderful place.Last time we went, was on a day out with all the ex employees where I worked, one of our heavily subsidised trips, courtesy of the company. As it was almost Christmas,it was spectacular,as we had lunch and a tour of the house as well, and they had seasonal stallswith lovely gifts too.A great place to visit at anytime..and so glad you enjoyed it,and your holiday. The log cabin looks great .

27 Sep, 2010

Great & interesting blog, Richard.

Just this evening I heard on the news on TV that next Tuesday they are having a great auction at Chatsworth House. They expect it to last 3 days! They are expecting to raise around 1 & 1/2 million pounds!!!

27 Sep, 2010

It sounds that you had a good time there with your workfriends Bloomer. It was a good place to visit you are right and plenty of pictures to be taken there also. ;-)

That is a lot of money to be raising there Balcony. I expect there will be plenty of visitors over the three days!

27 Sep, 2010

If you ever get a Log cabin there Richard, can I come and stay too???LOL! I am envious of your holiday it sounded perfect! In our busy busy lives out there, it is just nice to have somewhere like this to retreat to, and really enjoy Nature close up.....I would never want to leave.... :~))))

27 Sep, 2010

Good idea, and if you want a day out whilst there, you could come up and see me..only another hour away.By the way, seeing as you are a Jazz lady,we are having the 19th annual Jazz festival in the village of Marsden,on the edge of the Pennines, which is just up the road from us.It is on for 3 days, from 8th -10th October,.and gets bigger every year, with people coming from all over the country. If you google ..Marsden Jazz Festival, you may find it interesting Flori...

27 Sep, 2010

Of course you would be welcome to have a holiday there too Flori. A week away goes quite quickly when you are relaxing and chilling out. You could all come there for two weeks free of charge if I ever owned a cabin there :-))

27 Sep, 2010

Packing my case already...don't forget to do a lucky dip on the Lottery,Richard...we live in hope Lol.

27 Sep, 2010

Guess we could always build our own cabin...kindling anyone??? LOL!They would never miss a couple of trees there, would they? We could have Fauna,Foliage and Flori, a bit like the Beverley Sisters but a splinter group from Barking, as our entertainment under the stars at night....and Bloomer can bake her pastries over the camp fire, whilst Ba, Annella and Pip BAT in any of those little luxuries that we just can't do without....
Bloomer, I think there is a 70 mile exclusion order on me as Marsden just couldn't handle us both in the same country, let alone county...Mind you, if we had a log cabin up near there.....Tee hee hee! :~))x

27 Sep, 2010

Only 70 miles Flori ? you do surprise me...Lol tee hee hee to you too.:o)

27 Sep, 2010

I think I'm hurt by that remark! Whatever do you mean Bloomer, only 70 miles? It was 30 before you insisted they extend it....and put the military on standby...!!!

27 Sep, 2010

If you make it as far as The Great Western pub,on the border of Lancashire and Yorkshire, you will be able to hear the music from there, but as there will be a Chieftain tank in position as well ....Lol. but all is not lost, you can go inside and have a yummy bar meal...enjoy !!

27 Sep, 2010

Thanks for the invite Bloomer, I am up for a bar meal, anyone else like to come with Bloomer Flori and me ...lol;-))

28 Sep, 2010

I sometimes think that Bloomer doesn't like me, Richard, have you any idea as to why I think that might be the case???? Is Bloomer paying, cos if she is, I'm a-coming.....(Are you sure that's not a Chieftain Tankini, Bloomer??) LOL!

28 Sep, 2010

I am sure that Bloomer loves you Flori just as we all do my friend ;-) x

28 Sep, 2010

Hope you had a nice holiday. :o)

28 Sep, 2010

We had a great time thanks Hywel, a week soon goes though :-)

28 Sep, 2010

Ah shucks Richard, I'm welling up here! You do say the nicest things my friend! I have walked through your holiday picts again, and I think that I am in love my friend! That Log cabin could be my dream home, and those walks...how I wish!!
Hello my good friend, Hywel!x

28 Sep, 2010

You could easliy live in one of those holiday cottages Flori, and the scenery in the forest is so picturesque at this time of year ;-))

28 Sep, 2010

My idea of heaven ...... :~)))). I am going to add this to my Favs my friend!!x

28 Sep, 2010

Thanks Flori-so glad you like it ;-)

28 Sep, 2010

:~)))x

28 Sep, 2010

Good one Flori,..Chieftain Tankini....yes.of course I meant that.Glad you are coming to the pub with us Richard.Well, seeing as its my invite,I will treat you both..let's see.. quick review of finances...oh,good,state pension day on friday,so ok.Don't think they will take left over Euro's.Lol.
Its only £5.25p for a 2 course meal, choice of starter or sweet, and really good home made food...if you are really good, and have nice table manners, eat all your meal,I might even buy you a tea or coffee for 50p to finish it off....one of life's big spenders ,that's me...well I am from yorkshire..!!! Lol.

29 Sep, 2010

Thanks Bloomer the meal sounds nice you are so kind to invite me and Flori to the pub with you. I have excellent table manners I'll even allow you to fetch the drinks, so how generous is that my friend? I hope that you and Flori won't be fighting over your new toy boy though when we are out........lol ;-))

29 Sep, 2010

Ah shucks, Bloomer, you are known as miss Generousity herself, and you being a Yorkshire lass too!! I will wear Ba's latest fashion Tankini for the occasion, what about you Rich? I could always sing for our supper, and Rich can toot his flute, (Which will mean that we are both too busy to eat~that should cut down on the costs a little....maybe we can have a doggy bag to take away...) I'm sure I must have Scottish ancestry in me somewhere, apart from Welsh!
Ooooh, are we taking a ToyBoy too? Think I will grab Action man, what about you Bloomer? Sorry Rich, you might be the odd one out....LOL!x

29 Sep, 2010

Well as I am just over 18 Flori then perhaps I should have called myself a toy man, or action boy which sounds better. I don't think I had better mention to my OH that I am action boy though or she will get a list of chores drawn up for me to do....lol ;-))

30 Sep, 2010

LOL! Richard, well I do wind you up a bit, so you could easily be our toy man or action boy, my friend! Oh what it is to be just over 18, that takes me back into the dim dark ages of time....so long ago now.....I almost dread to think where Bloomer will take your comments, but at least one of us will be ladylike! (that's me, just incase you needed reminding by the way!) hahaha :~))

30 Sep, 2010

I have been action boy in the kitchen over the past couple of days Flori, washing up and helping our daughter prepare for a few catering events that she had over the weekend. I have had a few late nights lately busy with all the goings on. Lucky that action boy was on form with his fairy soft hands and well up for the job ;-))

3 Oct, 2010

Erm..who'se this new toyboy Richard? I seem to have missed this..are you referring to my OH,as he is 5 years younger than me..or have you and Flori got someone in mind, that I don't know about?..Have you two set up an internet dating site?...think you are on the wrong forum,my friend..Lol.

3 Oct, 2010

LOL Bloomer, you have to scroll up a bit, it goes back to you taking us all out for a pub lunch, and Richard says that he is our toyboy, Well, I couldn't let him get away with that could I? Not when you and I are two such trendy young things too....I think that he managed to slip that one passed you, but don't you worry, I'm keeping an eye on things...he is a sneaky dude that one!! lol!

Hope all went well for your daughter's catering events, Richard, a man's place should be at the sink, gives the women a well deserved break, though I guess nowadays, that is more likely to be at the Dishwasher~modern technology! :~))x

3 Oct, 2010

I think I could have been called Fairy Liquid Boy over the past few days Flori by the amount of time I have been standing at the sink with my marigold gloves ...lol , Daughter's events well well and they were pleased with what she did Flori. Here is a link to all the food that she has done, including dressing two whole salmon fillets:-

http://s713.photobucket.com/albums/ww132/richardpeeej/Nicolas%20Events/

hope you are well my friend. :-))

3 Oct, 2010

She must be delighted that it has all gone so well, Richard, you must be so proud of her my friend, and I will check out the link, thanks for posting! Am glad to say I am well, so is Raff, so all good so far!! By the way, loved the image of the marigolds!! lol.

Bloomer, whatever you do, don't suggest internet dating to Ba, she will just add it to her Global Empire building of BA Travel, she has already got the fashion industry in a tizz over her diverse range of Tankini's! Are we entitled to shares in her Company? I really must read the fine print!! LOL! :~))))

3 Oct, 2010

Glad you and Raff are OK Flori.
ha ha lol perhaps I can take some marigold cuttings Flori and grow another pair of gloves ;-)

3 Oct, 2010

Sometimes I just don't think the meds are quite working with you, Richard! You nuttier than I, and that is saying something! Tee hee hee! :~))

3 Oct, 2010

Ah Flori,,I scrolled back to look,I see what you meant....Lol.Its an age thing, you know.:o)))..mmm,a toyboy with Marigolds? ....bring it on Richard.!!!.....any good with a "Brillo pad???he he.See you all when I get back...I wonder what twists and turns I will find, please do not lower the tone anymore...I expect to see a smattering of gardening stuff,at least....Lol.

4 Oct, 2010

Have a brilliant time....with luck you will see some gardening stuff and probably some tom-foolery as well! lol

4 Oct, 2010

I picked some runner beans this morning in the garden Bloomer and Whistonlass. Ah well thats enough of the gardening chat, now brillo pads ..yes I am so versatle with those, they don't call me the champion scrubber for nothing lol ;-)
..a scrubbin here..a scrubbin there,
scrubbin sink and kitchen chair.
Scrubbed so hard it is no more,
Now sittin' on the kitchen floor!!

4 Oct, 2010

Next time you flash your Brillo pad,
maybe you shouldn't go so mad.
Marigolds moving at such a speed,
you never know quite where it leads!
Sat on the floor, now that sounds daft,
methinks you too good at your task!!
A toyboy,Rich, or is that a rumour?
Whatever it is, it's excited Bloomer! :~))))X

5 Oct, 2010

Ha ha Flori I like it and if I have excited Bloomer then that is my good deed done for the day. ;-))X ..lol

5 Oct, 2010

Hello,I'm back,and its so sad,
remembering the good time we had,
and all excited, about our toyboy lad,
The things he can do with a Brillo pad.!
Richard,,what are you like ?
I have been taking in some of the historical sights, and behaving in a demure manner,as befitting the occasion...and I come back to this den of iniquity??
:o))))))))))))))))))))))
.

6 Oct, 2010

Welcome back, Bloomer! I think you've pulled my friend!! LOL! Hope you had a wonderful time away...... :~)))x
Ps, check out the really rude photo that Spritz has added of the Craneflies, she says she didn't know what they were doing,...but I'm not convinced.....lol. We were all wondering what catagory it should go under...there has been some interesting suggestions....hahaha x

6 Oct, 2010

Hello Bloomer glad you had a nice time away ...did you go to your shop in Bakewell? ;-))
Hello Flori we have missed you and wondering where you were. Nice to see you back my gardening friend ;-))

7 Oct, 2010

Hello Richard! I haven't been that far away...just a bit sidetracked! Did anyone realise that it was National Poetry Day yesterday? I have been watching the trees in their autumnal colours, how I love this time of year..... :~))x

8 Oct, 2010

Yes Flori the trees outside our house are turning lovely shades of yellow and brown, you can see them through our bedroom window ;-)

9 Oct, 2010

I knew it was National Poetry day Bev but didn't write any poems ...lol ;-)

9 Oct, 2010

Hey, me neither, Richard, I just have to wait till inspiration strikes...us artistic types can be so temperamental...tee hee hee;

What's this I see?
No poetry?
Nothing scribed by Rich or me?
Poets day has come and gone,
and not a word, not even song.
How could it pass,
without a mention?
Well I was out,
picking up my pension!
So just a line,
a little ditty,
from Flori Lauri,
Being witty! :~))x

9 Oct, 2010

:)....nice Flori

9 Oct, 2010

Hi Richard,I had a great time.thank you.I didn't visit MY shop as we went to the Yorkshire Dales, and it would have been a bit of a detour to Derbyshire..Lol.
