Hello everyone! This week I decided that the pond needed some attention. The frogs had started to appear again and were causing havoc with the fish, one frog in particular had taken quite a fancy to one of my fish and would not let go of it so I decided that in the interest of the fish the frog had to be relocated to a nearby pond. Our pond is not very big but year on year there has been an increase in the frog population so a decision was taken to catch and relocate as many as possible, all in all we relocated 14 frogs and still have a least another 5 in the pond! As you can see from the final picture the frog was held safely behind bars pending an appeal! He is quoted as saying ’ it wasn’t me guv, honest. ‘Its a case of mistaken identity, I’m not that kinda frog!’ However he has since lost his appeal and is now serving time in the colonies.
The garden is beginning to really take on some colour now and it is fantastic to go out on a sunny day and take in the beautiful flowers now coming out.
P.S All froggies featured in this blog are happy and content in there new home!
Roll on summer!

I must say I'm not very keen on fish but love frogs and toads. A road near me is closed to traffic for most of March so that toads can cross from the woods into the park and then get to the pond. Volunteers sit up all night and collect the toads in buckets and transport them safely to the water. My name is down for next year.My own little pond is full of spawn, frog's I guess.

I like all wildlife and have no problems with frogs generally, we have a lot of frogs in the garden at the moment and we just have to keep a balance as our pond is only small. :-)

Love that last photo! My favorite book is Wind In The Willows and toad (I know this ones a frog) is always in trouble!

20 Mar, 2011

I'm sorry but the last photo looked like a BBQ grill?

20 Mar, 2011

There's a frog there too, K! LOL!

20 Mar, 2011

Love that book too Helenium. Toad in the garden I'm happy with, Badger, not really though my neighbour has quite a few, and as for Ratty - I'm afraid not.

20 Mar, 2011

I hope you frog-marched those frogs to their own pond ;o)

20 Mar, 2011

At least it's not just frogs legs on the BBQ.

20 Mar, 2011

Oh !!!!! I`m sorry but last photo has really tickled me, poor little frog, how`d you feel if someone chucked you in jail just cos you were twitterpated, lol...
Lovely photo`s Red and let us know if the frogs come back........

20 Mar, 2011

I'm with you on that one Ginellie, especially Ratty, Yikes!!
Tt, and Linclass very good! LOL!

20 Mar, 2011

:o)))

Lol! The grill was there purely as a temporary measure to keep him in while moving him- no harm came to him at all, he's now very happy in the local wild pond from which he no doubt came! He is also a lot safer there, away from my cat and a heron that visits us regularly and other local cats who happen to find frogs very interesting indeed! As I said before we still have at least 5 frogs and a whole lot of frog spawn in the pond, but it is only a very small pond and if we left all the frogs in it then we would have no water just a mass of jelly and certainly not enough space to accommodate the offspring or other wildlife that use the pond!

20 Mar, 2011

They will all be back next year for sure. It's nature!

20 Mar, 2011

That's a crazy photo, that frog has attitude, he's hanging on to that grill in defiance! I'm still laughing! You should send it in to a garden/wildlife magazine, other would enjoy that!

20 Mar, 2011

Lol, I do understand why you did it Red, I often remove them out of my fishpond and take them to our bottom pond and the times I rescue them from the dogs and cats is laughable, it keeps me on my toes.......
Helen is right its a brilliant photo....

20 Mar, 2011

Red Aly, Ginellie says the frogs will be back next year, but, this is a frog with purpose... he'll be back next week... for revenge!! LOL!

20 Mar, 2011

You are right about the frog and photo Helenium. I think it needs a title and I'm going for 'Jailhouse Rock'.

20 Mar, 2011

LOL...

20 Mar, 2011

Nice one Ginellie! LOL! I'll go for a Michael Bolton song, Steel Bars! or Englebert Humperdink, Please Release Me!

20 Mar, 2011

Maybe froggie wants to escape so he can go a courtin'???

I'm laughing still at that last photo....too funny! lol

20 Mar, 2011

Right, I posted the first comment when I fell about laughing at the frog 'in jail', but it's been deleted! Now my screen is all green, no white in the centre! ????

20 Mar, 2011

I think he's saying 'come on girls, I know they say you need to kiss a lot of frogs ....but believe me I'M THE ONE. (Well, the next one, William's gone).

20 Mar, 2011

Hi Red - what lovely blue flowers you have posted - you obviously like the colour blue in your garden - so do I.

As for your little froggie - he has such a cheeky look on his face as if he's saying - "Wait for me !"

Glad to hear he's back where he belongs in the wild.

Well done.

20 Mar, 2011

I think 'he' belongs wherever he chooses to be, which is usually in and around water. If we decide to make a pond in our garden then of course we must expect visitors to it, that's what nature is about.

20 Mar, 2011

How strange Shirley tulip, I wonder why?

20 Mar, 2011

Not a clue, Ginellie, I've had enough of it now so I'm off to sleep! Goodnight all ... sweet dreams. : o ))

20 Mar, 2011

Lol! Think all the song titles are good but think ' we gotta get out of this place' by the Animals is very appropriate too! I have no doubt he will be back soon as the local pond is only at the back of the house on the fields, and he will be more than welcome once the main spawning season has finished to join the rest of his friends in the garden and pond! Just need him to cool down a little and give the other frogs, newts and pond life a chance to recover from the winter, your talking to the girl here that takes in stray frogs brought to my garden by neighbours and children on my estate!(that's probably where I've gone wrong-took too many in) Love all animals, have nursed all sorts of birds back to health, have no problems with letting the mice nest under my shed, hedgehogs have nested at the back of my garden, squirrels have their own food put out and have wild rabbits and foxes visiting too. What did you post Shirley- am curious why it was removed too!!

20 Mar, 2011

Lincslass- know what you mean about rescuing them from dogs and cats- had three brought to me last year from a lady further up the road from me who's dog found them irresistible and kept bringing them in the house. :-)

20 Mar, 2011

I think I put: If he'd got the 'Go to Jail' card, would he have croaked? ... something like that anyway! No worries ... still laughing at the pic of him behind bars. : o ))

20 Mar, 2011

Thanks Mariek, yes I do like blue! :-)

20 Mar, 2011

Lol! Like it Shirley!

20 Mar, 2011

20 Mar, 2011

Shirley my screen has been doing that for weeks now I scroll down up and down like a yoyo sometimes, haven`t a clue as to why it does it.

21 Mar, 2011

Nice photos, esp the last one lol. I'm sure the frogs will settle in their new home :)

21 Mar, 2011

Thanks Hywel!

21 Mar, 2011

That's just the funniest frog pic I've ever seen Lol!

21 Mar, 2011

Lincs ... all back to normal on the screen this morning ... hope it stays that way! : o )

21 Mar, 2011

The fact is that it is not uncommon to find a frog on a fish. The truth is, that it was trying to mate with it. They do this, if there aren't enough females. you may have relocated it, but it may well come back.

I lve the picture of the frog, it looks like he is chilling out.

21 Mar, 2011

Glad the puter screen is back to behaving, Shirley :)

21 Mar, 2011

lol Red aly, lovely photos of flowers and so funny the froggy one haaha, i havent any frogs at the moment, all dies over winter but not had probs with my fish and frogs thankfully

21 Mar, 2011

Thanks Sanbaz- sorry the here you lost frogs in winter. We have plenty of hiding places for them to hibernate so no problems with frog survival here! Yes Alexb - know it was trying to mate! Don't mind if it returns just need it to cool its heels a little and give the fish a fighting chance of survival! Thanks for all you comments! :-)

22 Mar, 2011

Thanks Lulu33- love the picture of your cat!

22 Mar, 2011

22 Mar, 2011

Its still there- at least I can see it! Has it disappeared off your screen? Wonder if its the site having problems?

22 Mar, 2011
