A Show of Fuchsias

This spring, I joined the Cardiff Fuchsia Society as I wanted to learn more about how to grow and look after these lovely plants. I nurtured some plants ready for the local show at the beginning of August, but I am afraid the hot spell affected them and they drooped badly – a lesson learnt! I have learnt a lot however over the last six months.
I attach some pics which I took at the show; this year it was held in a Garden Centre in Nantgarw, and the organisers were pleased with the amount of interest.
The first pics show the winners of the section on a vase of cultivars, the Board Blooms and the Floating Flowers.

I attach some pictures of the prizewinners – there were more entries than usual this year. Maybe I will manage to put something in next year.

Note the Best in Show, a Winston Churchill, I believe.

I have attached two pics of some of the prize winning basket entries

I am afraid I seem to have missed the first prize in the basket section – sorry!

Finally I include a couple of my fuchsias which have done well in the garden this year. I hope I can keep them until next year!

I have reached the conclusion that our bungalow and garden does not lend itself to fuchsias, having very little shade in the garden and very few windows facing north or east. Never mind, I will keep trying!

Some spectacular fuchsias at the show....I hope you get to fulfill your wish to put your own fuchsias in next year (how exciting to participate). Your garden fuchsias look very healthy and do hope they overwinter for you to present you with another feast of blooms next year :)

I agree some nice show photos. I usually put floating ones in the house.
Good luck for next year, I hope you win a first prize :o)
I don't have much shade in my garden either, it faces west, but I keep my fuchsias in a shady covered area at the side of my garage.

I I had the time and skill to specialise, I would choose Fuschsias. I'm sure you'll learn much and hopefully win prizes.

I have decided rachelsmum that fuchsias are my favourite plants! The photos have just made me realize just how fantastic they really are.
Wish i could have more in my own garden, only seem to have luck with the hardy varieties!
Hope you have great success with yours!
