Grapevine woes

Asked on 5 May, 2008

I have a grapevine that is dripping water from a stem that has been cut back. The water is dripping quite fast - any idea how to seal or treat this, will it harm the rest of the vine?

I think you have pruned at the wrong time. It is better to prune when the vine is dormant. They are known to bleed.

Hello. Just an idea - how about plugging the bleeding vine with a lump of "blutack" or a cottonwool ball sellotaped on? Of course, you would have to get the vine dry wo get either of these things to work.. Worth a try, I think.
