Can anyone identify these plants/weeds please?
They live side by side in a shady border and seem to be spreading quite rapidly.

The first one is quite clear in the photo I think.

The second phot is less clear - it has pretty blue flowers but has very long runners - (I can't think of any other name for them - they are about 3 - 4 foot long!).

Thanks in advance for your help.

The first one's Houttyana cordata - not sure about the second one - pretty blue, don't recognise the leaves though.

Could the second one a Commelinia of some description. Grew a few from seed last year...that's what makes me ask.

As mentioned, the first one's Houttuynia. brush the leaf and smell it...it's supposed to smell of citrus, i think it's disgusting !!!!!!! lol

Citrus! Is that what its supposed to smell of, I don't agree with that, it stinks...

That first one's name has been annoying me for hours, I knew it but it just would not come.
Leaves are wrong for Commelina, could it be Green Alkanet? Or, even one of the pure blue Pulmonarias?

Thanks for that. I'll maybe take another photo of the second one tomorrow.

Wanted to add 2 photos - wasn't sure how to do it - so I've 'updated' my original question. 2 new photos of the second plant. Any more ideas what it is? I'm actually holding it in my hand in the second photo - it isn't really as tall as it looks!

Hmmm - it seems to have deleted my original 2 photos - don't know what I should have done differently, as it just seemed to give me the option to add additional photos. Help please!!

I think you can only have 2 photos with a question - but it doesn't matter, you already know one of the last two anyway, this is the one we don't know - so far... it's not coming off a woody base, is it?

No - all the stems seems to come straight out of the soil together (if you get my drift!).

Well, I've not got a clue what it is - hoping someone else does know

At the risk of you all having a laugh..could it possibly be a forget me not? ..I only suggest this,as one of mine is still flowering..and never stopped this year..and the stems are long like this..go on,laugh..I don't mind ! :o)

The flower heads are certainly like forget- me-not but I don't think they have such long stems do they - about 4 ft - which are not upright - they are all tangled up in a sort of heap!

Thanks for the suggestion though - and who knows, you may be correct.

If the flowers remind me of anything, its Pulmonaria rather than Forgetmenot, as someone already suggested - as to which one, I've no idea, with those leaves. Plus I wouldn't expect prolific flowering at this time of year, rather, just a few.

I'd say definitely a member of the Borage family, but don't know what it is otherwise.

It looks a bit like the wild borage opposite me but the leaves don't look hairy enough!

Looks a bit like a blue Gromwell, Lithospermum purpureocaeruleum, A friend of mine grew some from some wild seeds she bought online.

How do I say thanks?
