i have new shoots at the very bottom of my cordylines but a dead trunk can i cut this trunk almost down to ground level to make it grow stronger and can i seperate severy new shots without killing them

YOu can cut the dead trunk down to where the new growth is, preferably at an angle to allow rain to run off. As for taking new shoots and potting them on, that's difficult - you need to get shoots which have viable roots at the bottom, and usually you find the shoots are coming directly off the base of the trunk.
