HI, ITGOES BY THE NAME OF LONDON PRIDE, IF IME NOT MISTAKEN.IN MY EXPERIENCE ITS VERY HARDY ,I GOT A PIECE FROM MY MOTHERS OLD GARDEN MANY YEARS AGO AND PUT SOME IN A ROCKERY AND T GREW VERY WELL, SO IDECIDED TO TRY IT IN DIFFERENT PLACES AND IT HAS GROWN EVERY WHERE I PUT IT. ROM FULL SUN TO SHADE TO DRY OR EVEN BOGGY GROUND .GOOD LUCK WITH IT.

It looks to me like BERGENIA. I have never been able to grow it. I hope you have more success. Good luck.

Sorry Happy this is Bergenia aka Elephants Ears.London pride is a Saxifrage grown in rockeries with small spires of tall white flowers.

Thanks for the replies.Sorry Bonkersbon the flowers are pink with a burgundy stem not white flowers.The plant is approx 3ft by 3ft and very healthy.

Thanks Bonkersbon sorry no offence meant its just you said" tall white flowers" .Are they a common plant ?

Yes they enjoy shady positions and pretty tough. The leaves can get a bit tatty and sadly snails love them. as flowers die back snip off stalks.Can do the same with dead leaves that youll find on base of plant.Dont worry they dont need much attention.If get to big for the site they are in can even cut into those thick stems to reduce size they ll come back.Victorians loved them esp with ferns in their grottos and conservatories.

Just saw photo and it had to be Bergina can get get very big not a favourite of mine although it is a pretty flower whern in bloom.

It is Bergenia, avery useful early plant with some very good dark pink varieties now available.

Yes it's bergenia... great stuff, evergreen leaves... nice and hardy.
