strawberries

i am growing strawberries in the ground for the first time, they are all flowering well....do i cover with netting now to protect from birds (we get loads) or do i wait till the fruits are large or doesn't it matter, also how often and when should i feed,...any other tips will be great as i have loads of cream on standby and need loads and loads and loads of strawberries. thnx x

Netting sooner rather than later will help along with straw underneath the plants, to stop the chance of fruit rotting when it comes into contact with the soil.
