my Ash tree has little green caterpillars munching the leaves help

the new young leaves of my ash tree are being eaten by little bright green caterpillars, this happens every year and I spray with normal bug clear sprays and they drop off eventually, I want to know what type of caterpillar they are and what they would develop into...HELP
