Begonias

My daughter planted about 10 flats of begnoias and there was NO warning for frost. Well, she called and said there must of been frost because they look 'mushy". Is there anything that can be done or are they to far gone?

One of the reasons we gave up bedding plants donkeys years ago was that there can be a frost in the north of Scotland at any time of year.

From my old records, Wisley has had frosts every month except July. Clean off the rotten bits, dust with green sulphur. Do not over water and wait and see if they will recover.

What on earth is 'green sulphur' and what does it do? Can you get it from a garden centre? I grow begonias and am intrigued and fascinated.

Green Sulphur is a mild fungicide, controls fungus on your plants. It is available from any Garden Centre.

oh dear. There was a frost a few nights ago - doubt they'll recover, but you never know, might be worth waiting a day or so to see. Incidentally, the recommended planting time in Britain for bedding (like begonias and busy lizzies, especially) is end May/start of June. There has been a frost on 4th June before, historically, in Britain.
