Yes for ease of drainage and to keep ants etc. out. You ca neither buy proper feet or use stones.

I agree. It also helps to keep pots off frozen ground/slabs in winter.

I like my pots off the ground if possible. I use all sorts of ploys to acheive this. A reversed saucer or pot stands of one type or another. Or a reversed plant pot to give variety in height for my patio display. Also a variety of wheeled pot stands for the heavier pots.
