Roots on tree trunks

Asked on 26 Apr, 2008

I have a willow tree that appears to have roots trying to grow from the tree trunk (above ground!) I found definitions of adventitious roots, but no instance of them on a willow tree trunk. Any ideas

Hi Odianao not sure where you are based but welcome to goy.If in UK you will be aware that willows grow readily next to rivers and streams. As banks erode and crown of tree increases in weight they lean heavily over water . Is your willow leaning ? Think you may find that roots being exposed as tree leans these appear to increase in size as tree tries to secure itself into remaining soil.
