I am delighted with my clematis they seem to like the cooler damp weather, but I was surprised to see a deep mauve flower on another clematis which has a stripe (dark cerise stripe) and looking through my gardening notes I had planted in 2009 'General Sikorsky' which did not come back after the first 2009 planting. I can now see it is a separate root from the existing striped Clematis. Is it possible that this Mauve flowered clematis has lain dormant since 2009, and suddenly decided to thrive??

I am no expert but this has happened to me, I have one coming up really strongly, I thought it was completely dead so planted another one in its place and I really dug down deep to get it planted correctly, so now I have 2 mingling together, I cant wait to see them flower together, a nice little extra bonus.

I had a clematis that didn't grow for 4 years. Last year it grew and flowered well. Needless to say it didn't show it's face this year. The slugs like the young shoots so could be the reason yours disappeared and they have possibly left it well alone this year.

Yes, it is entirely possible for this to happen. I once planted a Bees Jubilee in a client's garden - it flowered the first year, and then disappeared. 5 years later, I moved in to the property and revamped the garden - I found clematis roots there, so I left them in situ, fed and continued replanting around it. The following year, up came the Bees Jubilee, and by the time I moved out 5 years later, it was massive, covering the wall it was growing against.

Have just taken photos of my 2 clematis and have downloaded them onto my computer, how do I attach them to a message?

You can attach one to this question by editing it - alternatively, upload them to Photos and they'll be in your Photos for us to go and find.
