Lots of little bugs crawling on my acer branches

I've just noticed that my acer is under attack from some kind of insect! There are lots of tiny little bugs crawling over some of the branches. Could somebody please recommend how i can get rid of them? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not sure what type it is to be honest, i was given it as a cutting a couple of years ago. Its a red shrub, and i'm guessing its some kind of Japanese Maple / Acer Palmatum.

If you are organic, then spray them with soapy water.

If you don't mind using chemical sprays, then get an 'all singing all dancing' bug killer and zap them!

I noticed today i had some small blackflies on my Shishigashira so I just sprayed it with a bug spray. I too havent seen them on it before
