Put a glass marble in the bottom of the kettle - it stops the limescale coating the element, instead it just falls to the bottom of the kettle as a powder. My grandfather, who was a chemist's dispenser, taught me this trick and it works

There you go then - mind you, you'll have to boil up a fair bit for, say, 2 acid loving plants...
