Can I plant a birch sapling were conifers grew up to 12 months ago

United Kingdom Gb

A row of conifers were removed from the bottom of my garden some 12 months ago I would like to plant a birch sapling in that area, is this possible? if so can I have some tips for a successful planting

Silver Birch is the most spartan of all our British trees.
If your site is clear of roots, weeds and fungus, put in some soil, it is late now to plant, better to leave it till October. You can sow mustard to check the balance of the site in which you wish to plant.

Thanks for asking Leigh. Getting there gradually and enjoying the lovely weather. Need some rain here. Hosepipe ban imminent. I am starting to get out there again, got to get back to work, I have been too long under my wife's feet.
