I want to set up another vegetable plot but a busy road lies just the other side of a tall hedge. Am I likely to get polluted produce?

I've read that you shouldn't pick blackberries from besides roads due to the pollution - personally, I'd be hesitant about eating veg grown beside a busy road... :-(
