If it is the marguerite that I know it is very strong and certainly will re-grow.

if its the bedding ones in delicate pinks etc, then they may not. A photo of them from lastyr would help :o)

Erm, I'm sorry to disagree, Grandmage, but margeurite daisies are not hardy outside. They're actually Argyranthemum frutescens - is it possible the ones you're thinking of are Shasta daisy?

When I was little we always called ox eye daisies marguerites so in my head that's what I call shasta daisies. Old habits die hard! Most kids called them moon pennies though.

never heard them called moonpennies, what a lovely name. as kids we called them big daisies :o)
Argyranthemum were the ones I was thinking about as opposed to the leucanthemum [shasta] type. The shasts type are as tough as old boots.

I have never called them Shasta because my Nan called them Marg....... and yes they are as tuff as old boots, I keep digging mine up and even more grow, they were original cuttings from my Nannies garden 28 years ago!!

I was never sure whether Shastas were the same thing as marguerites and was a bit confused by the two varieties as they are so similar. However, Bamboo seems to call the non hardy ones marguerites. Its all very confusing
I think the shastas will still be marguerites to me though.
Yes moonpennies is a nice name Sbg.

Me too Stera. an old name that has been changed to a modern one! I love the name moonpenny too.

There's quite a big difference between them, Steragram - Argyranthemum (marguerite) has greyish, dissected leaves - ox eye daisy, or shasta daisy (Leucanthemums) or moon daisy or Fanny or Fred or whatever else anyone wants to call them generally have darkish green leaves which are not dissected.

Bam, I know what you mean but I grew up with all my gardening knowledge coming from my dear old Nan and these are what she called them, Leucanthemums are what I call Marguerites, I know its wrong, but that name has stuck with me. I know this doesnt help answer this Q.

My Dad always called Leucanthemums ox eye daisies, and it doesn't matter what you call them - unless you're answering a question like this. But the question has been answered - they're likely to be dead, because they're not frost hardy, they've been out all winter, and they're marguerites or, more properly, Argyranthemum.

Yes I agree, i had a beautiful standard marguerite and lost it to frost, such a shame, but the other b's, well you have them forever! Lol
