thank you for your help i will have a look for those plants when i am next at a garden centre.

my acuba has been in my garden for several years and is thriving well (at the moment its covererd in snow.

As you mention your Aucuba, I think you must be the person who asked about plants for limey soil. You shouldn't experience any problem with your Aucuba even if the soil is limey.
In future though, if you want to make a response when you've asked a question, its better if you post it beneath your original question, underneath all the other responses, as if you're answering yourself. That way, all the people who responded to you will get a notification that something's been added and will see your response.
