Pond Fish
Asked on 14 Apr, 2008
I have got 2 fairly large gold fish in my pond, one is red the other mainly light pink with a little bit of red on the tail, I have seen about six small fish, about 3 inches long in the pond, could anyone tell me why they are all dark brown to near black? Please.
Many thanks

Thank you Julez0
True to your words, they are changing colour rapidly, as they are getting bigger, what beautiful colours they are turning out to be!

I hope my two fish don't breed - my pond is only 2ft x 3ft!!!

Sid, I started with just 2 fish, I have spotted seven more.
What can I say, but I am delighted though.

Dark brown is the natural colour of the goldfish - they were originally selectively bred to produce the bright colours we are familier with. Left to their own devices, successive generations revert back to the original dark colour. There's nothing wrong with your fish, their dark colouring will make them safer from attack by preditors :-)
