theres nothing you can do realy but i think roses are quit tuff as it goes and the yellow leaves will be because of theweather possibly . dont get me wrong you may have lost it . keep an eye out for sighns of next summers buds . i got given a climbing rose in the heat of summer cut hard back and know soil round the roots . i didnt have much faith in it serviving but its doing realy well . good luck . bamboo or doctor bob are the best people to answer your questin if your realy worried .

Pruned a rose too far back too close to the ground and was informed taht it may come back, as they are tough.

Someone said that their neighbour did so, and they always came back.

My rose has sprouted large new luscious growth.

Thank you, everyone.

You're welcome.

ditto your welcome you can nearly cut them to the floor so dont worry .

Roses normally come back from hard pruning just fine. In fact, that is how cut flower greenhouses treat them. On the other hand, doing it consistently shortens the lifespan of the bush!

Thank you, guys. May be problem with the roots, then, 'coz leaves keep getting yellow and there are no new shoots.

What are you feeding them, Olena?

2 Dec, 2011

Blood and Bone, and Granulated Rose premium fertiliser plus. But you can feed them only once every 6 months. I even took the plant out to have a look at the root, but it seems Ok, though I can't be sure.

have you truied cutting the food down or out altogether . it wont hurt like a lack of water would and you got nothing to lose x

just a tester month perhaps .

If your soil is alkaline, and the rose is more than a few years old, it may do better with a feed with more nitrogen, such as straight fish meal, or alfalfa meal.

Guys, do you think it could be a root rot?

3 Dec, 2011

ask bamboo or doctor bob they will know x .

It's hard for roses to get root rot, unless the drainage is completely missing. Other things that can imitate it are crown gall, borers--if you get those in Oz--or heart rot on older bushes--any more than 10 years old in Queensland, I would think.
