Pachira aquatica leaves going slightly brown/yellow

Foliage looking unhealthy, leaves going patchy yellow/brown and falling off easily. Very worried, this plant was a present from my son at Christmas.

Its name suggests it needs to be kept moist. -Perhaps you have it in a very dry room. stand the pot on a tray with gravel in it and some water. Stand the pot on the gravel to avoid it sitting in the water.
