I have 2 hardy Fuchsias in pots. ' Carmel Blue ' and 'Paula Jane '. I'm sure i read an answer to a question on here, that hardy fuchsias survive better in the borders over winter. My question is should i put a fleece cover over them, or will they survive uncovered over this harsh winter thats been predicted ?

It is Fuchsia roots that need protecting so they will be more likely to survive in the ground where it is warmer than pots. However Carmel blue is only semi hardy and I believe so is Paula Jane so better off in a greenhouse - if you cannot keep them under cover mulch heavily

Mine are to - its an extremely mild autumn in some parts of GB. I have not even turned my heating on yet.

I've had dealings with Carmel Blue and wouldn't call it hardy at all. I don't know Paula Jane, but I wouldn't leave either of them out for the winter.

I have so many lovely fuchsias blooming still - as for heating Drc726 - I'm still just wearing Tshirts and at the moment the kitchen door is wide open. I do hope the weather doesn't just change overnight.

Thank you for your replies. Another sunny day in Manchester today ! Looks like the temperature is going to drop next week though !

I have 25 pots of fuchsias still in full bloom here in the Czech Republic. But temps are forecast at 0 tonight and -4 tomorrow so although I shall cover them with fleece I am not at all sure they will survive.

But every single pot got a big second flush of flowers when I thought they were just starting to go over. The weather is so strangely mixed now one has to keep a constant eye on the forecasts.

How do I say thanks?
