If you are a 'Who' fan, 'Boris the Spider' would be a good name. Written by John Entwistle.

9 Oct, 2011

We have a huge spider that walks across our front room when he pleases, his name is Sid. !!

9 Oct, 2011

See, so Harry's not such a daft name after all ;o)

9 Oct, 2011

How do you know it's a fella? I hope she's not offended!

9 Oct, 2011

Well if it's a she, her name could be Harriet;o)

9 Oct, 2011

Our tame thrush was called Harriet ! Lol.

9 Oct, 2011

We call ours Horace.

In that species, the "hes" are a lot smaller and slenderer. She also looks like she might be pregnant--not surprising this time of year!

We had a resident Praying Mantis we called Henry, and we often see the Eyed-Lizard triplets - all known as George - apart from the biggest who is known as 'Big Daddy.' It's nice to be daft! ;o)

10 Oct, 2011

why not nariz i give all my pets new names lol .

10 Oct, 2011

We call any passing Praying mantises, scorpions, spiders, cats (if we don't know them), lizards, etc. "Sunshine". Problem solved, and the tone of voice let's them know exactly how we feel about them, too.

I must admit, when stationed on the Welsh coast we used to feed a one eyed seagull which we called Nelson.

10 Oct, 2011

Lol Container.!!!

10 Oct, 2011

can't remember the advert, but can remember a young lad saying that it was harry the spiders coming out day. since then i have called all specimen spiders harry. mind you i'm not so keen when early morn or evening, take a stroll round the estate and get cobwebs across the face??? uuugghhh just like like sticky bootlaces?

10 Oct, 2011

lol Scottish! I'll watch with interest for the new arrivals!

Kev, yes there was an advert with 'Harry the spider' in it - it was advertising Cadburys chocolate fingers in the 70s (hubby's googled it). It is awful when you walk through a cobweb, the web this one made was absolutely huge, stretching right across the patio. I only realised it was there when I walked through it!

So you see Chris, everyone has silly names for insects and other animals and pets:o)

10 Oct, 2011

your showing your age lol x .

11 Oct, 2011

Well NoseyP - a new word for my vocabulary book! Padipulps. Nice one. I will look at Horace (or Horacina) more carefully in future.

11 Oct, 2011

horacina it is in this case lol steragram lol . my faverite words are piraclastic flow and (excuse my spelling) lol trebushay lol x .

12 Oct, 2011

What is piraclastic flow Nosey...something to do with plumbing?
and is trebushay French for very bushy? :)

12 Oct, 2011

Pyroclastic flow is the eruption of gases and dust from a
volcano eruption ,Scottish..It is what killed the people of Pompeii..or Herculaneum..from Vesuvius..I can't remember which way round it was..one got the Lava, and the other got that..only know as I have been to both..and been to the top of Vesuvius..still active too..but who knows when !

13 Oct, 2011

your right bloomer its wear the grey dust is fired out of a volcanoe and a trebushay is basicly a huge catapult for throwing things large over castle walls scotish x .

13 Oct, 2011

I have never heard of trebushay,Nosey,so thanks for that:o))

13 Oct, 2011

I think it's spelled "Trebuchet", Bloomer. I remember being taught about them in history lessons when I was a little girl, about a century ago. Nosey, I LOVE your word "Pyroclastic flow". I'm not sure I can think of anything better, but I think one of my favourite words is "anthropomorphism" (giving animals human characteristics). There are some lovely sounding Italian words, which I won't bore you with, but they've got some incredible rolling "r"s and consonants that sound as if you are spitting at someone. Nice! How did we get onto this subject? We were discussing spiders.

13 Oct, 2011

Thank you for the education....didn't listen much in history :)

13 Oct, 2011

Nor did I. Came bottom of the class every time. I just remember the interesting bits that didn't really matter when it came to exams. Same for most other subjects.

14 Oct, 2011

i hated school i learnt most of this after school as i always watch animal programs etc . love the word for giving animals human atributes as ikeep and train dogs and thats one of the biggest problems with people and dogs especialy x .

14 Oct, 2011

I think it's far easier to learn and remember things that you don't HAVE to. I was rotten at languages at school, but because I WANTED to learn Italian, but it wasn't really important (long before we moved here) I found it much more interesting and therefore easier. I'm not sure I ever learnt much at school that's been useful in later life - as you say, Nosey, you can pick up so much from just watching television programmes and so on. I'm surprised, given my distinctly geriatric brain, how much I am still learning from day to day. They say "Use it or lose it", don't they? I have a nasty suspicion though, that each time I remember a new Italian word, somewhere in my head, TWO other things go missing! :-))

14 Oct, 2011

lol gattina definatly i never wanted to do french, religous studies and sport and at 50 i still have know use for them still lol but as i was good at art i liked that and did better bye far .

14 Oct, 2011

I was the same, absolutely hated Latin..that must be why I'm not called Dr Bloomer ! LOl.

14 Oct, 2011
