I have a large population of vine weevils in my strawberry planter. I will retain the few plants and runners in pot form for next Year.I won't be using the container again for strawberries.I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what I can grow in in it.It takes 50 ltrs of compost, would it be a good idea to cut it in two?

You will need to discard the soil and destroy any grubs you find. Vine weevils will attack other sorts of plants as well as strawberries. Make sure that you don't 'repot' any of the weevil larvae with the old plants.

Have you watered the tub with vine weevil killer? It only works above a certain temperature so read the pack - it may not be too late depending on the weather.

Make sure you clean ALL the soil off the strawberry plants before replanting, because the grubs will hide in amongst all the soft roots, which they nibble off! Annie
