I bought some last year and planted them in a mix of orchid and milti-purpose compost. They were doing well but they all rotted off at the base eventually. Not really helpful but hope you have better luck than me!

Hi Holyeves, I am new to this site, live on the south coast and have also received these bulbs as a present and was looking for advice on how to plant them. I will be interested to know how you get on.

In answer to question 6019, I bought these bulbs about 3 years ago. I planted them in orchid compost and I have left them in a sunny position and each day during the summer I douse them in water. This year, I finally have some buds but also spider mites. I have treated the mites and I am waiting for the flowers to open up. They look just like Dianthus at the moment. I will let you know what appears if the buds open up fully.

Lol... are you growing them in a pot or in the garden.... i had mine in pots , then put the pots in the garden on the patio....

in an orchid pot with the others-- maybe not the right thing but how can you have moisture retentive and free draining? did you use orchid or ordinary compost-- its kind of you to help Holly-- thankyou

Glad to be of help.... i used ordinary compost... the orchid compost was very expensive... maybe thats why mine didnt do very well.... it seems you have to keep the compost moist but not to wet.... it will be great if you can get yours to flower...
