Thanks to all who responded to my Skimmia question - I will try pine needles and also iron sulphate I only signed up to this site yesterday - wow - love it!

Sequestrene iron tonic works just as well if you can't get iron sulphate, but Skimmias in sunlight often turn a yellowy colour from the sun - although there's not been a huge amount of that this year...
