I have a white heather which has grown into a nice small bush but is looking brown and dead underneath does it need cutting well back and when is the best time can anyone help please.

They do look brown underneath. You can prune but don't remove all the green growth as it will not regrow from the woody bottom material. Heathers really need pruning every year, or run the strimmer across the top (that is what they do in Edinburgh Botanics.

Do it after it's flowered.
