when can a old box hedge be cut low to the ground ?

large box hedge in a maze shape ! about 3 ft high and very wide started to fall apart needs to start again so how low can it be cut down .

Hi Darren. You should be able to cut back the Box hedge. It is astonishing the way it regrows from hard pruning. If you can leave some green foliage on branches it ensures their renewal. If you intend to do it do it now. I cant guarantee survival but there is a good chance, and if it fails there will still be time to replace it .in the Autumn.
