Japanese acers grow perfectly well on neutral soil, or soil which is only just the acid side of neutral, so I suspect it'd be fine. Other forms of Acer do not object to non acidic soil conditions.

I have two bags of ericeous 50 L and two bags of multi purpose compost that should make up the container that I am transplanting the acer into so I will give it a go Thanks for your help.
