I have looked up Mrs N. Thompson Firewoks & General Sikorski & none of those fit the bill. Any more info would help Thanks John & Gillian

You have told me the flowers were 8 inches across, and that the plant died of wilt - however, you still haven't said when it was in flower, or at least, when this photograph was taken, at what time of year, and that's critical.

Try Clematis Mrs. James Mason 7" flowers are blue with light purple central bar and cream anthers, blooms May-June and August-September.

I think it is a Clematis as Drc726 said, I had two in my garden, not the same colour. I can put it on my photos for you to see.

Thats good news Harvester, remember to plant deep to reduce the risk of Clematis wilt and if it happens just cut that bit off.
