Afriend has asked me to give him some ideas on shade loving plants He has a north facing garden

Is he looking for perennials or shrubs or trees or a mixture of everything, what size is the plot and does it get any sun at all?

Also, is the shade particularly dry? Is it deep shade, or dappled/light shade?

Hellebores, impatiens, and beregenia are good for shade.

I'd second the idea for hellebores which I love, and add in some pulmonarias, snowdrops and some other woodland bulbs for the spring. ...ferns maybe? Is it dry or damp shade I wonder?
