What is the state of your ground folks? Here in Glamorgan it is rather wet!

Vale of Glamorgan, Wales Wal

Hubby emptied the rain guage this morning and we have had 4 and a 1/4 inches of rain in January. Lets hope we don't have a "February Fill Dyke" to add to it, which is the old saying. It looks as though we are in for a cold spell again which will help to break up our heavy clay soil. Can't wait to get back out there. Thankfully the snowdrops are through to cheer us up. How much rain in other parts of the country?

Hi Telme,
We have had just over 3 ins. (76milliletres) in the Thames Valley. Glad you are still keeping records. I had this fantastic new rain gauge at Christmas which doesn't seem to work, so have sent it back for testing, not heard anything yet, so am back on my old fashioned instrument.

Yes it's a great idea Spritz, you only need a simple one, I have been taking readings for many years and keep all the records, It's a good way to judge whether you need to water or not. As soon as you start taking them it gives you an idea when it's the right time to sow and plant. The wet season we have just had proves that many fungus diseases are more prominent. It's very interesting to look back at my records and compare readings.

Oh! dear Telme, the Thames Valley has completely disappeared this morning under the snow.
No sign of any ground anywhere. Hope it's better where you are.

Well Doctorbob I have been watching the news and am quite jellous, not having to go to work any more!!!!, I would enjoy the scenary. No snow here at all keeps missing this little piece that juts out into the sea. and what has fallen in surrounding areas are just shower flurries.
