Hi, My cosmos are just flowering - they do grow very tall - mine are about 4 foot. (Cosmos Sensation) If you nip of spent flowers you"ll find they bush out and you"ll get loads of flowers, I grow them every year and they are often still in bloom half way through November! They'll also self seed readily if you can resist 'tidying up' and let them stand for quite a while. Some years they are a bit slow to get going and I guess this is down to the weather conditions. Don't give up on them though as they make a lovely show when in full bloom.

Mine have been in flower for 2-3 months. I have heard that they need neglect and if you feed them, and look after them, they tend to produce more foliage instead of flowers.

Mine have also been in flower for some time. They need as much sun as possible. If they are not in full sun in a south facing position then they will be shorter and produce less flowers.

Well Cosmos 50 having sowed many cosmos seeds I have only two which have grown this year. Last year - loads, so don't know what the answer is really - keep trying I guess.

What cosmos like: full sun, poor, sandy soil, light feeding (if any), and moderate water. Drought speeds flowering, but stunts the plants, and shortens the bloom season. Too much nitrogen and water results in huge ferny plants with few and small flowers. Older varieties, especially pre-'Sensation', grow bigger, and take longer to bloom, than newer kinds, like 'Sonata'.

I have neglected min and they have been flowering well for ages but they were not a tall variety, if that makes a difference.
