conifers

Asked on 18 Mar, 2008

Hello readers;

I have just moved house and have gained a huge garden that has not been touched in years. My problem is i have two large Conifer trees that form part of a natural fence line at the rear of my property. I have no choice but to cut down the tree at the front due to disease, the tree at the back is un-affected but the majority of it has been shaded from any sun light and has no green growth until three quarters up. I noticed that there are still small branches and shoots that are brown, i was wondering if this would become green again if it had light after the removal of the deseased tree or would it be better to remove both?

It seems as if it will be better to remove both, conifers will not re-grow from old dead wood, if it looks unsightly? I would take it out.

Oh dear. Bluespruce, who is our conifer expert, is unfortunately right. The only other thing you might consider is to plant something else in front to hide the dead brown parts, if that's at all possible? Or an evergreen climber up it? Welcome to GoY by the way.
