My Bay tree is putting out lots of "suckers". What do I do?

Since they are normally grown from cuttings or seeds, there is no danger that they are a different variety from the top.

If you want it to be a standard and not a bush you need to pull them off the roots, or at least as far below soil level as you can. You could leave them if you want a bushy shrub.
