I am the proud owner of my 1st hosta..I would like to grow it in a pot...will multi purpose compost with horticultural grit mixed in and some gravel in the bottom be ok.thankyou.

Sounds perfect to me. Just make sure the pot is not too big or too small and it will thrive. Depending on type, it will do well in shade, semi-shade or full sun - mostly semi-shade.
