A word of warning though - they will spall in cold weather, housebricks are not designed for use in the garden.

Depends on the brick and how hot they were fired, Bamboo, some do OK. Try your council recycling center or find a place that sells reclaimed building materials - a treasure trove for all sorts of 'potentially usefull' goodies.
