yes ofcourse.i wouldnt worry.the truthe of the matter is the human eye cant tell between 10 million and 3 million pixels.optical also is the important bit.ive got photos on here that are only 2 million.you ould only notice if you made them poster size.so dont worry your pictures will look fine

NP is right.Even for printing out, if you are not going above A4 size then 5 megapixels is fine. What is more important is the quality of the lens. All this pushing people to buy a 10 or 12 megapixel camera is purely a marketing ploy. And for the web 2 megapixels is more than enough otherwise, even with broadband+ you would be waiting for ever for pictures to load.

Without going too technical, it is the File size which is the deciding factor on whether a site will accept a picture as much as anything else. I reduce all my pictures which come out as 2592 by 1944 pixels to 450 by 337 pixels (I use Photoshop 7 to do this but there are lots of free programs on the web and you usually get one with the Camera too). That gives a file size of around 130 kb which is ok for Photobucket etc. Hope this helps. If you need any more help please ask.

If you're looking for a free program to resize or crop images, XnView is a good user-friendly one.

Thanks Elleme, I too have some photo editing problems I have Adobe Photoshop 4 and it a monster memory hug on my computer. I will look at XnView.

I also use shrinkpic -- it is a free programs that downsizes all the pictures I send over the internet. Most of my pics taken are way too large and reducing them one by one by Adobe is painful and needs some expertize.

I am sure, that these newer cameras have size function options so you can shoot in lower pixel environments. Unless you intend to blow them up for art pictures most of these large sized pictures are not needed.

Everything I have posted here has been Shrinkpic-ed.

I use Finepix which came with the camera. It has a batch resize facility which is what I use. I wish people would reduce the size of their pictures sometimes. This morning for example to look at one picture from one poster on here took 17 minutes for our ultra slow Dialup connection to reveal it all. Even a 450 by 338 pictures takes over 3 minutes to arrive. Ah well. The offer still stands for anyone needing any help though.
