Brown discoloration

The conifer spears at the end of the branches are turning brown on some of my row of conifers. Is this a fungus? Can it be cured? Or should I just pull the brown bits off the branch?

It doesn't look good for this to happen, I should just remove the dead bits and wait till Spring to see if it has worsened, in which case you may have to replace.
