I bought a packet of mixed Iris seeds from a stall at the malvern show three years ago and this year one has flowered. Is this a known species or a poor version of a well established garden plant. Any advice would be welcome. Thankyou

About what you can expect from open pollinated Bearded Iris seed. About one in a thousand is worth patenting. This one isn't too bad, though. The apparent size and flower form makes me think it has a strong Miniature Tall Bearded Iris (aka "Table Iris") background. Give the others a chance--those with larger, fuller blooms tend to bloom a year later than the others. This one might have a better bloom next year, too.

Much appreciated, thank you for the advice. I will wait eagerly for the others. It's like christmas really, you never know ehat to expect. I have a dozen of so clematis with similar dubious parentage from seeds also.
