how do i prevent the neighbours cat from digging up my my flower beds

Answers

They go for soft/freshly dug earth so it should'nt continue? heavy planting will leave them no room. I saw this plant last week in my local GC Coleus canina - 'Scardy Cat Plant' you could try that. I find Cat Pepper works when its dry. There are electronic scarers too!

I tried a number of things, but the best way to stop cats digging and pooing your beds is to cover the area with bamboo sticks/canes. That physically stops them from getting access and helps you to remember that you planted that area. After a 4 weeks or so that plants will have grown and the cats smell will have gone - so they should leave the area alone.

We are plagued with cats where I live and I have tried everything to keep them off, what works for me is close planting along with short sticks pushed into the soil if I have dug anywhere, also thorny rose stem clippings laid onto the soil, it stops them squatting!

Cookygirl, may I suggest you train your dog not to defecate on the flower beds. A dog can be rained a cat can't.

A tip I got was to put canes in the ground with up turned flower pots slotted onto the until the plants grow closer together. I found this did work, except they moved to another part of the garden. I had to make the decision of where I was willing to let them poo as there is no way to totally eradicate it unless I leave my wee pooch outside 24 hours. He doesn't chase them but wants to play but they don't understand that. I also have 3 kittens, who have only been outside for a few weeks they are continuing to use their litter box, that no doubt will not last forever.

Cats don't like citrus smells and I have found that old orange peel or lemon peel cut up and sprinkled on the soil does put them off, if only for a short time. Its organic too!!Also the idea from Kildermoire works quite well too.
